Behind the cup

Honduras La Leona is grown on the southern slopes of the Santa Bárbara Mountain range, where high elevation and cool mountain conditions support slow cherry maturation and balanced acidity. Washed processing brings clarity and restraint to the cup, allowing Cranberry and Lemongrass notes to stay fresh and focused while a gentle Clover Honey sweetness adds roundness. The Parainema cultivar anchors the profile, contributing smooth texture and approachable structure, resulting in a balanced, consistent, and easy-to-enjoy profile.

Farmlevel Story


La Leona is one of several farms owned by Edgardo Tinoco, a producer widely recognized for shaping the reputation of Honduran coffee on the global stage. Located within the buffer zone of the Santa Bárbara Mountain Nature Reserve, Edgardo’s coffees have earned top honors at the Cup of Excellence, including two first-place finishes, along with additional top placements that speak to long-term consistency rather than singular success.


Edgardo began growing coffee as a teenager, learning the craft from his father before purchasing La Leona in 2015. The farm sits along the southern slopes of Santa Bárbara, where Parainema thrives in cool temperatures and biodiverse forests. Cherries are carefully washed and dried on raised beds overlooking the reserve below.


Today, Edgardo works alongside his sons, Mauricio and Junior, blending generational knowledge with thoughtful agronomic innovation. Our partnership with Edgardo now spans more than a decade, and La Leona reflects that shared commitment to quality, sustainability, and coffees built for both clarity and longevity.
