Farmlevel Story
Buriso Amaje is a respected farmer and community leader in Sidama’s Bensa district, known for producing high-quality natural coffee with bright citrus and floral notes. His dedication to heirloom varieties, sustainable practices, and meticulous processing results in a vibrant and complex cup.
Buriso Amaje farms 12 hectares of coffee in Dambi village, in the Bensa district of Sidama, where he also serves as a community leader. Through his work, he has helped fellow farmers improve both the quality of their coffee and its reach in the global market. He cultivates the 74158 and 74160 varieties, both selections from the Jimma Research Centre and originally sourced from wild plants in the Metu-Bishari forest. These heirloom varieties are prized for their bright citrus and floral notes, high yield, and resistance to Coffee Berry Disease.
His plants are nourished with natural compost and maintained through careful annual pruning. Buriso is meticulous with cherry selection, and all processing and drying takes place at his family home. Like many small producers in the region, he produces only natural, dry-processed coffee. We’re honored to represent his work through this beautifully fruity and complex cup.
