Behind the cup

This SL-28 lot gains its shape from washed processing, which preserves clarity and keeps the variety’s acidity focused and precise. Grown between 1,600 and 1,800 meters, the coffee develops both brightness and density, producing a structured profile with pronounced acidity and fuller body.

Each coffee is roasted to order. Orders ship within 2 business days.

Farmlevel Story

This collaborative lot brings together two producers who have played key roles in the rise of Honduras’s Santa Bárbara region. Arturo Paz comes from one of the area’s most recognized coffee families. His father Fidel, founded Beneficio San Vicente in the 1980s, a mill that helped local farmers refine processing practices and connect with specialty buyers. Today, Arturo manages multiple farms throughout the region, continuing to experiment with cultivars and micro-lot separation to highlight the potential of Santa Bárbara’s high-elevation terrain.

Neighboring producer Edgardo Tinoco began farming as a teenager in 1995 and has since become one of the region’s most accomplished growers. His farms sit along the southern slopes of Santa Bárbara Mountain Nature Reserve, where cloud forest conditions support slow cherry maturation. After reaching the finalist stage of the Cup of Excellence in 2009, Edgardo continued refining his cultivation and processing practices, ultimately winning first place in 2011.

Together, the two producers contribute to this SL-28 lot, a Kenyan cultivar introduced to Honduras as growers search for varieties that can adapt to shifting climate conditions while maintaining high cup quality. Through careful washed processing and high-elevation cultivation, Arturo and Edgardo continue exploring how new varieties can thrive within Santa Bárbara’s evolving coffee landscape.
