Behind the cup

Juicy notes of papaya and guava burst in the first sip of this Kenya Swara AB, mellowed by a sweetness reminiscent of raw honey.

Each coffee is roasted to order. Orders ship in 1-2 business days.

Story

picking coffee cherries from a tree

This is our first year purchasing Swara, but not our first coffee milled at Kahawa Bora, the mill just outside of Nairobi. Farmers across Kenya contribute to this blend, as most farms are too small to produce enough coffee – the average farm size is .5 to 2 hectares. The mill provides crucial services for the farmers and cooperatives, like offering agricultural extension work to improve their crops' health and ensure the best possible quality. Thanks to the mill, small estate owners can receive larger payouts for their high-quality production and link their name to their coffees for consumers to help foster relationships with roasters and customers alike.

This blend, Swara (Swahili for gazelle), is composed primarily of SL28, SL32 and Ruiru-11 from small estates and cooperatives throughout Western and Central Kenya. These producers work with Sucafina’s sister company in Thika, Kenya.

Brewing Suggestions

You can enjoy our Single Origin Espresso coffees with any brewing method you prefer. You’ll still experience all the nuances, but these coffees really shine when pulled as espresso.
