Behind the Cup
Grown at 1,670 meters in Kirinyaga, Kenya, this washed lot brings together coffees from smallholder farmers delivering to Kiunyu station. At high elevation, warm days and cool nights help develop sweet, dense cherries before the coffee is fully washed and processed at the station.

Kiunyu station works with 3,825 smallholder farmers in Kirinyaga, many cultivating coffee on small plots. Through the Karithathi Farmers’ Cooperative Society, producers have access to lower-cost seedlings and farm inputs, lines of credit, and agronomic training designed to support their farms.
Farmers also receive technical support and soil analysis through Kahawa Bora, helping them better understand the specific nutrient needs of their land. More targeted fertilizer use can reduce production costs while supporting healthier trees and higher-quality cherries, giving producers tools to improve both farm productivity and coffee quality.
