José Martínez Guzmán blends deep-rooted tradition with forward-thinking innovation, producing exceptional Pink Bourbon coffee in Colombia’s Huila region. His dedication to quality, from immaculate farm management to award-winning processing, results in floral, tea-like cups that stand out on the global stage.

José Martínez Guzmán has been immersed in coffee since birth. Raised in Palestina, Huila, he learned coffee agronomy and processing from his parents before briefly leaving the farm as a teenager to work as a bus driver. Eventually, he returned to his roots, purchasing his father’s land and committing fully to coffee farming. José brings warmth and generosity to everything he does, from nurturing healthy trees to fostering over 16 rescue dogs, as we saw firsthand during our 2024 visit.

His farm is meticulously maintained, with well-pruned trees that produce excellent yields. Profits from coffee sales are reinvested into infrastructure, including improved drying spaces that enhance quality and consistency. In 2021, his hard work paid off with a 5th place finish in Colombia’s Cup of Excellence for a washed Pink Bourbon lot. This variety is celebrated for its floral aromatics, delicate structure, and tea-like clarity, often drawing comparisons to high-elevation Ethiopian coffees. Through his vision and dedication, José continues to shape Colombia’s specialty coffee landscape, offering expressive and memorable cups from the heart of Huila.
