Farmlevel Story

Produced by 500 smallholder farmers and processed at the Gura Factory in Nyeri County, this washed lot expresses Guava, Kumquat, and Black tea with striking precision. The combination of high elevation, mineral-rich volcanic soil, and meticulous double-washed processing creates a cup of remarkable clarity and complexity.
Located along the Gura River, the fastest in Africa, the factory is part of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society, which supports over 14,000 farmers across 17 washing stations. Most producers here cultivate fewer than one hectare of land, tending coffee alongside food crops. Their attention to selective picking and careful processing results in coffees that are consistently among Kenya’s best.
The “double washed” method involves two fermentation stages and extensive rinsing, yielding the clean, sparkling acidity Kenya is celebrated for. This lot exemplifies that precision, offering a cup that’s both fruit-driven and structured. Gura stands as a testament to smallholder collaboration and Kenya’s legacy of excellence in coffee craftsmanship.
