Behind the Cup
Grown at 1,900 meters in Colombia’s Urrao Valley, this washed Chiroso comes from a region known for its cool temperatures and distinctive growing conditions. The variety has been cultivated in Urrao for roughly two decades, producing elongated seeds and coffees recognized for their bright, floral character.

Fray David Moreno has spent more than 25 years growing coffee in Urrao, Antioquia, including 15 years cultivating Chiroso on his family’s land. At Finca El Rosal, he became an early supporter of the region’s parchment coffee purchasing program, which has helped connect local producers with opportunities to improve their farms.
Through the program and the premiums earned for his coffee, Fray David has been able to make significant improvements to his property, including building a new processing facility and renovating his family home. These investments have helped him continue developing Finca El Rosal and his work with Chiroso.
