Farmlevel Story

Grown in Guatemala’s Sierra de Las Minas mountain range, this washed lot captures the vibrancy of its diverse microclimates.

Notes of Honeycrisp Apple, Meyer Lemon, and Raw Sugar come together in balanced clarity, offering a refreshing expression of the region’s unique conditions.

Stretching across eastern Guatemala, the Sierra de Las Minas range is both a cultural and ecological landmark. Rising from 150 to 3,010 meters, its vast 242,000 hectares host cloud forests, dry slopes, and over 250,000 people across 222 communities. Designed as a biosphere reserve in 1990, it remains home to extraordinary biodiversity, including Guatemala’s largest cloud forest and the quetzal, the country’s national bird.

The Atlantic Caribbean winds meet the mountain’s high elevations to create contrasting microclimates. Humid cloud forests on the east and dry desert-like terrain on the west shape slow cherry maturation, which deepens sweetness and clarity in the cup. Combined with rich volcanic soils and generations of knowledge, these conditions produce coffees that are distinctly Guatemalan in their depth and vibrancy.

Beyond coffee, Sierra de Las Minas has long been tied to jade, its most famous natural resource. The Río Motagua reveals jade deposits during the rainy season, sustaining a tradition of craftsmanship that dates back to the ancient Maya. Today, this heritage remains part of the cultural fabric of the region, where natural wealth and agricultural excellence continue to thrive side by side.
