Behind The Cup

Duromina offers a lively balance of fruit and depth. Ripe Blood Orange and juicy Melon bring brightness to the forefront, while a smooth layer of Dark Chocolate rounds out the cup. The result is classically Ethiopian, vibrant yet grounded, and delicious from start to finish.

Each coffee is roasted to order. Orders ship in 1-2 business days.

Farmlevel Story

Grown in Ethiopia’s Oromia region by the farmers of the Duromina Cooperative, this washed lot brings zesty Blood Orange, refreshing Melon, and a grounding Dark Chocolate finish. Built on collaboration and care, Duromina delivers both clarity in the cup and resilience at origin.

In 2010, 113 residents of the village of Boto, Ethiopia, came together to form the Duromina Cooperative with a clear goal: to improve both their coffee and their livelihoods. Its name, “Duromina,” means “to improve their lives” in Affan Oromo, a vision that has guided the co-op from the start.

Before Duromina, farmers were forced to sell their coffee to private traders at extremely low prices, often between 1.5 and 3.25 birr per pound (roughly $0.07-$0.38 USD). With little to survive on, farming families struggled. Partnering with TechnoServe, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit, the community gained access to training, business support, and a wet mill that transformed the quality of their coffee. Soon after, Duromina’s lots were introduced to international buyers, fetching nearly five times their previous value and dramatically improving member income.

Today, the cooperative has grown to more than 130 members who remain deeply committed to quality and community. Farmers share knowledge, support each other’s harvests, and work collectively to uphold the standards that have made Duromina world-renowned. More than a producer group, Duromina is a living example of how collaboration and perseverance can shape both exceptional coffee and lasting opportunity.

Each cultivar has its own flavor profile. Not only is the taste different, but the actual coffee plant is different.

Coffee processing is crucial to the taste in the cup. Processing is done by the producer during the drying process.

Different cultivars thrive under different environmental factors.
