STORY

Suke Quto farm

Suke Quto Farm stretches across highlands and valleys in the Shakisso woreda in the Guji region. The lush landscape with volcanic soil creates the perfect environment for growing coffee. Tesfaye Bekele, a pioneer for coffee farming in the Guji zone, founded the Suke Quto Farm and Washing Station. Tesfaye focuses heavily on preserving Guji’s forest, and his efforts at Suke Quto have set the groundwork for most other farms in the area. In addition to the 171 farmers that provide their cherries to the washing station for processing, Tesfaye owns 221 hectares in the Guji Highlands. Giving back to the community is an integral part of the mission at Suke Quto, from hiring more than 200 seasonal workers each year to initiating a community project to renew local schools.
