STORY

This coffee comes to us from the Guji region, situated between Sidamo and Yirgacheffe, two very common and recognized coffee producing regions. The name Guji comes from the Oromo People, who have roots tied to coffee farming. As traceability efforts expand in the specialty coffee realm, so too does the recognition of Guji as a distinct coffee region. Formerly, Guji was thought of as being a part of its neighboring regions at different times. Ample rainfall, steep mountainous terrain, and high elevation combine to create the unique profiles we see coming from this area.

The farm from where we receive this coffee was founded in 2012. It is located on 250 hectares of land (or 617 acres), and the farm reaches up to 2300 meters. We generally consider farms with elevations above 2000 meters to be impressive given what we know about the agronomics behind coffee cultivation. The farm is nestled in and surrounded by a rainforest where organic farming is practiced. These farmers also help neighboring smallholding producers by purchasing their harvest while offering the mill for processing their own coffees. With farm elevations reaching 2300 meters, and the complex and balanced flavors in our cup, our curiosity to try coffees from Guji grows.
