Farmelevel Story

This coffee comes to us from the Terrazú region of Costa Rica and is the result of the hard work of the Calderon family. When crediting a producer for any given coffee, we’re typically referring to a single person – often a land-owner – who cultivates coffee trees, pays pickers to harvest them, oversees processing (or delivers and sells coffee to a wet mill), and is more or less directly accountable for the quality of their produce. In the case of the Calderon family, it’d be impossible to credit just one member. The entire family is super passionate about coffee farming, and their dedication is reflected in their end product.

Don Omar Calderon diligently manages the family’s seven farms. The three Calderon sisters—Yoanna, Diana, and Yoxise—oversee the processing at their micro-mill. And Doña Yorleni treats her guests to coffee brewed with a traditional cloth dripper in their family’s kitchen.

This specific catuai selection comes from their 1800 meters above sea level farm known simply as Ortiz 1800. This is the first year we’ve had their natural processed coffee, which we’re very excited to offer.
