Behind the cup

Vibrant and punchy notes of guava greet the first sip, amplified by bright hints of lime. A gentle sweetness of honey rounds out the cup, making this final lot of Enrique del Cid’s Honduran coffee one of our favorites. Each bag contains 150 grams of whole bean coffee.

We’re humbled to present long-time Verve producer Enrique del Cid’s final lot of coffee from his farm in Las Flores, Santa Barbara. This lot was his only bag produced for the year and his last on the farm that we’re so lucky to carry exclusively. He was fairly new to coffee in 2017 when we first started working with him, and we’ve purchased every year up until this final lot. His farm had Pacas, Catimor, and Catuai varieties. These Pacas coffee cherries were picked at peak ripeness and de-pulped immediately after picking using a hand-cranked de-pulper. The resulting parchment was dry fermented for 18 hours, then rinsed in water tanks and placed into solar dryers for 14 days before being hand sorted to remove defective beans. He recently sold his farm to open a mechanic shop right next to the mill but plans to return to coffee farming soon, saying, "I am very eager to have my own farm again because I am passionate about producing coffee. I want to return to go to my farm every weekend and work on it. That relaxes me a lot." We look forward to seeing him on a new farm in the near future.
