What happens when one of Costa Rica’s most fabled coffee producers purchases a farm at one of the highest points in the Tarrazu region? We buy the entire production.
On account of his rebelliousness in high school, his father would send young Juan Ramón Alvarado to work on their family farm for 5 months out of each year. Slowly, agriculture would become his passion and he would go on to graduate from Costa Rica’s distinguished EARTH University in 1999.
Winning the Cup of Excellence, selling his coffee at record-breaking prices and partnering in founding Costa Rica’s premiere boutique coffee exporting operation, Exclusive Coffees are only a few of the feats Juan Ramón has accomplished in the 18 years since.
“Don Jose” is the newest farm in Juan Ramón’s fleet where he plants villa sarchi and gesha high above the Tarrazu region. Once picked, coffee cherries are transported to his Central Valley micro-mill - Brumas del Zurquí - for wet-milling and drying on raised patios.
We believe the coffee experience is our responsibility from seed to cup. Coffee is our craft, our ritual, our passion. It drives us and inspires us. With this simple truth and responsibility we are bridging the gap from farmlevel to streetlevel.
