A lot can happen in a decade. In 2008, the Lamastus family became Verve’s first Farmlevel relationship when we debuted their first iteration of the Elida Estate Natural. The coffee became an instant classic and has been one of our most anticipated coffees every season since. Over the years to follow, we would partner with them on the naming and launch of their Elida Green Tip Gesha, which recently set the world record for the highest price paid for a coffee at $803/lb during the legendary Best of Panama auction.

Alongside these hallmark Elida Estate coffees, we also partnered to debut their most recent project: Luito Estate Gesha. This beautiful farm sits even deeper into the continental divide than the mystical Elida Estate and is proving to be a world-class coffee in itself. The relationship we have with Thatcher, Wilford, Wilford Jr, and the rest of the Lamastus family is one of Verve’s greatest examples of Farmlevel; long-standing relationships built on trust, communication, passion, and a focused purpose to bring the best coffees in the world to the people.

This year marks the Lamastus’ 100-Year Anniversary in coffee and we could not be prouder of their hard work and heritage, and at the same time their vision and potential for the future.

To the future,

Colby Barr, Co-Founder
Ryan O’Donovan, Co-Founder

BEHIND THE DIGEST

The sign greets you when you get off the plane in Chiriquí, Panama, Bienvenido a la Frontera: Welcome to the Frontier. It’s hard to overstate just how remarkable a setting this is for the most prized and exquisite coffee variety on Earth. Coffee isn’t native to the region, and the variety that would propel the tiny town of Boquete into the spotlight of the coffee world was actually born in Ethiopia. So, why La Frontera? Why was it this precise place in the world, this remote corner of the coffee-growing Bean Belt that would come to change the way the global market evaluates and prices coffee? What drew the original pioneers here and why did they stay? We brought some naïve questions and a lot of film to do some investigating of our own.

Read about in our second volume of the Farmlevel Digest.
