Behind the cup

Wilder Blend showcases three distinct processes from three different regions: a washed Costa Rican from Jose Alvarado’s farm El Higueron, a honey from the Sampieri family in Chiapas, Mexico, and a natural from a group of smallholders in Quiche, Guatemala. Earthy hints of juniper meet the subtle tartness of pomegranate and sweet candied citrus, making each sip reminiscent of drinking coffee in a blossoming orchard.

Each coffee is roasted to order. Orders ship in 1-2 business days.

EMPLOYEE QUOTE

Wilder is one of my favorite coffees every year! This year's blend is sweet, tart, and citrusy. Definitely makes for a balanced, juicy, and fruity cup! It doesn't get any better than a fully immersed cup of Wilder.

STORY

This year’s Wilder Blend brings together three beautiful Latin coffees, each with three distinct coffee processing methods, creating a balanced, earthy cup.

We fell in love with this season’s honey-processed coffee from Sampieri's farm, Finca La Laja, in Mexico. This coffee grows in the fertile soil of Huatusco – a mountainous region fed by a network of small streams running into the La Antigua River. Only the skin is removed for honey processing, and all of the fruit mucilage remains on the seeds during the drying process, making for a mild and sweet cup.

A Verve classic, we’re excited to include a washed component from our longstanding relationship with Jose Alvarado in Costa Rica. Jose’s farm, El Higueron, was inherited from his grandfather in 2010. By 2015, Jose and his wife Annie opened their mill, Imperio Rojo, allowing them to divert their resources into tending the farm and meeting the growing demand for higher-quality coffee. As a result, they continuously produce high-scoring coffee every year, and this washed coffee is the perfect complement to our Wilder blend.

The natural component for this year’s blend comes from a collection of smallholders in Quiche, Guatemala, who deliver cherries to the new wet mill owned by Federacion Comercializadora de Café Especial de Guatemala (FECCEG). The FECCEG was founded in 2006 to find sustainable economic activities to improve members’ livelihoods. The resulting natural lot is bursting with sweet berry and chocolate notes and helps contribute to the blend’s lovely mouthfeel.
