Farmlevel Story
Farmlevel
Along the southern slopes of Mount Kenya, a Cooperative society called Rungeto runs three formidable factories: Kii, Karimikui and Kiangoi. These three factories are known across the world as being stellar producers of some of the best coffees coming out of any country, not just Kenya. Rungeto was created in 1953 and given the three high yield factories. Its entire production rivals some Coops that have many more factories, and they recently hired a third-party organization to help them increase the yield threefold over the next few years. It’s therefore needless to say the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society is a clear example of excellence.
The Karimikui Factory purchases ripe coffee cherries from over 1,000 nearby small-farmers who cultivate small plots of land throughout the foothills of Mt. Kenya - home to some of the world's most optimal coffee-growing conditions.
This lot is a selection of the grade-AA beans from the members of the Karimikui Factory. During the dry-milling process, coffee bean size is measured with an assortment of screens with holes of varying diameters. Grade-AA coffees are comprised of only the largest beans in the lot.
