Farmlevel Story
We feel lucky to offer this coffee again after a difficult season in Ethiopia. This coffee comes to us from the Guji region, between Sidamo and Yirgacheffe, two common and recognized coffee-producing regions. The name Guji comes from the Oromo People, who have roots tied to coffee farming. The recognition of Guji as a distinct coffee region has expanded alongside the traceability efforts in the specialty coffee industry. Formerly, Guji was thought of as being a part of its neighboring regions at different times. Ample rainfall, steep mountainous terrain, and high elevation combine to create the unique profiles we see coming from this area.
Nestled in a rainforest amongst organic coffee farms, the farm that this coffee comes from was founded in 2012 on 250 hectares of land reaching up to 2300 meters. Generally, farms with elevations above 2000 meters are impressive due to the agronomics behind coffee cultivation. These farmers also help neighboring smallholding producers by purchasing their harvest while offering the mill for processing their own coffees. We’re excited and continually curious to continue trying coffees from Guji.
