The first impression of La Candelaria is sweet and juicy cantaloupe. Its body has deep notes of brown sugar. La Candelaria is coating and syrupy in mouthfeel--down to the last sip.

La Candelaria has been a component of our Streetlevel blend for many years. It is excellent for those who want lower acidity, higher sweetness, and a consistent experience throughout as it cools.

  • Farmlevel Story

    Farmlevel

Shortly southwest of Antigua, on the eastern slopes of the massive Volcan Acatenango, lies the small municipality of Alotenango. Before the value of specialty coffee was realized, coffee from Alotenango would be sold as and blended with the name “Antigua” to profit from the region’s premium. Coffees from Alotenango are a micro-region of their own, characterized by their volcanic topography and near proximity to the Caribbean sea.

This year’s selection of coffee from La Candelaria was assembled through the extensive process of evaluating “day-lots” from the estate. A day-lot can represent anything from a plot, or location on the farm to a specific day of harvest. Our green coffee buyer evaluated over 7,000 bags of coffee from the Candelaria estate to select those that felt best to represent this unique region.

La Candelaria (drip method)

Love this coffee - I switch between this and French Roast in the mornings and can't wait to try in a press. If you like darker roasts, this is a good one right underneath French Roast. Verve Coffee isn't as dark as (let's say Starbucks), but I recognize the flavor profiles right away and they are spot on!

La Candelaria Espresso

Very smooth/neutral tasting (not lots of dark or light notes), overall very enjoyable and refreshing.

Good but the listing was not clear and ordered the wrong type of bean

I was looking for beans for drip coffee and only realized the beans were meant for espresso after it was delivered. In the end my fault but I think making it more clear it was espresso beans would be helpful.
