Lisa Cappelloni leads Verve’s brand and communications. She first fell in love with coffee at age 20 while living in Rome, and regards her morning coffee as the best part of her day.
How do you start your morning?
My toddler usually wakes me up at about 7am or so, followed by my yellow lab and then my husband. We’re a loud crew in the morning! I tag-team with my husband - one of us grabs a bottle of milk for the baby and throws a scoop of dog food in the bowl for the dog, and the other one is on coffee duty, stat.
What's your morning brew?
My favorite coffee in the morning is a hot mug of The 1950, which I brew as an espresso, with a splash of almond and coconut milk creamer. I buy my coffee beans whole, and grind them in the morning to the espresso grind using the Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder. Grinding the beans fresh each morning really brings out the unique flavors of the blend, especially its sweet citrusy notes. Then, I use my beloved espresso moka that I bought in Italy years ago, and wait by the stove as it brews.
Favorite part of your morning?
My day is really in pause-mode while I savor my coffee. I don’t check my email or go on my phone or start multitasking with all the things that need to get done - it’s the one part of my day that I really practice being present - enjoying the beautiful flavor of my coffee with slow, mindful sipping.
